Visited: Ballstad, Vikten, Nusfjord, Sund
Stay: Sund- free carpark next to Blacksmith Museum 68.0052 13.2066
Although it was raining as we left Haukland, by the time we got to Ballstad the sun had peaked out from behind the clouds. This is a large working fishing village which also does a large volume of boat repairs and maintenance.
After a stroll around we went to have a look at Buksnes Kirk.
Then to the glass making in Vitken. It all started back in 1976 and now the works are mainly made from recycled glass and local Quartz. The building is quite unique and we enjoyed watching the 2 men do their work creating small colourful vases of which we purchased one as a souvenir.
From here we zigzagged once more across to Nusfjord which is one of Norway's oldest and best preserved fishing villages.
Whilst most of the other buildings have been turned into restaurants and an old fashioned shop.
There were plenty of red and white houses on stilts over the water offered as accommodation. They did have one old boat shed a saw mill open to have a look as well as the power plant and a smithies workshop, but unfortunately the cod liver oil making factory was closed.
The power plant generated enough electricity for one crane and one light bulb!
We were fairly disappointed in the whole experience especially that there was a charge of 50kr each to enter the village. They say it's goes towards the village but we don't see it! Anyway, we came, we saw, we left and it's another experience to add to the list. The highlight was the drive in and out which was most spectacular that made it worthwhile.
Flakstad Church built in 1870 with onion dome.
Double bridge
Every corner has a new a beautiful vista.
Returning once again to the E10 we came down the next peninsula to Sund, to visit the blacksmith museum (90kr). We decided to stay in the carpark here as the day was getting on and it was time to stop.
