Arstein Gratangen Norway

Travelled: 207km
Stay: Arstein on Gratangen fjord. Parking near bridge with amazing views. 68.6844 17.5485

This morning we drove off Senja Island and stopped briefly in Finnsnes to do some shopping. We have found the food to be a little bit more expensive than say, France and Australia but not exorbitantly so, especially when purchasing the essentials. For example a loaf of nice bread 25kr / €2.70 and Salmon €16/kg. Other things in the shopping basket was some fish soup €5.50 and meatballs, along with some yoghurt and some fresh fruit and veggies. We filled up on fuel that averages out at about €1.50 per litre.

Our next stop for the day was Malselvfossen. These falls have Europe's longest salmon ladder beside it. We travelled off the E6 for 11km and parked in the free (out of season) car park and went for a walk to get a closer look.

A salmon viewing tank as they swim pass.

We doubled back to the E6 and stopped at a now closed old settlers village for lunch.

After taking a few photos of the huts we were off again and soon experienced another beautiful snowy pass. One had a war memorial for Narvik 1940.

Along the way as we descended to our turnoff at Gratangsbotn we saw plenty of 'water falls' as the snow melts and meets with the sea below.

On our approach to Arstein we noticed a couple of Motorhomes parked in a large spot next to the bridge and thought we would join them. The views were amazing and the French neighbours very friendly, sharing their fishing stories and some fish for dinner with us. When we crossed the bridge we were astounded at the amount of fish swimming under it. No wonder they had such a great catch. They are salting most of it to take home.

The black shadow is actually thousands of fish
