An Aussie afternoon Norway

Travelled:66km
Stay: Holand Rest area, free service point, WC 66.7245 13.6984

Unfortunately it's another rainy day. We couldn't even spend some time indoors doing a bit of shopping as they are closed today being Sunday.

As we drove into Ornes the Hurtigruten was pulling out. We drove through a few tunnels, the longest being nearly 8km. In between there was an opening with a road leading to a carpark where there is a staircase (1129 steps) heading up the mountains. We would have loved to have gone up to have a look but we weren't keen in the pouring rain. Maybe tomorrow. So on we continued.

On the other side of the tunnel the colour of water was beautiful glacial blue. We parked in the parking area next to the tourist office (open Mon-Fri) with great views of Svartisen Glacier the 2nd largest in Norway. There is a boat (170kr) that will take you to the otherside of the fjord and then you would need to walk 1.5hrs+ to the base to get a closer look. There are also 5hr guided tours on the glacier. Again an activity to consider tomorrow if the weather clears.
This afternoon we are sharing stories and a few drinks with fellow Australians Cheryl and Bret with Matilda their Motorhome, whom have been travelling in Europe for the last 4 years.
