This morning we drove to a giant cuckoo clock near Hornberg to see it chime at 10am.

 We then continued our journey to Freiburg, a vibrant town with a medieval old centre that had some beautiful buildings. We managed to find some street parking and walked 15min into the centre.  The stomachs were rumbling so we went on a hunt to find a restaurant that sold schnitzel. After demolishing our lunch with couple of local brews we were set to explore the town.

We passed under Martinstor, the older of the two city gates and has been here since 1202. 

We strolled through Rathausplatz where both the New and Old Town Hall are found.

 The ‘Whale House’ has a lovely late-gothic styled bay window. 

We then entered the busy Munsterplatz which holds a market everyday except Sunday. In the middle prominently stands the Minster with its 116m tower. It’s a beautiful building made from pink sandstone with lots of decorations.

 Once inside we were awed by the colourful lead light windows and we were lucky to have an impromptu choir sign. 

Another amazing building in the square is Merchants Hall which can’t be missed due to its crimson facade and richly decorated gables. The 4 statues depict Hily Roman Emperors. 

We walked along the busy main road then through the smaller streets in the Fischerau area back to the motorhomes.

 We then drove 20min out of town to Emmendingen to a stellplatz. After a bit of a rest we walked into town and were quite surprised at some of the lovely buildings here.

Rhine Falls Switzerland, Triberg Germany

Visited: Rhine Falls Switzerland (paid parking 7chf for 2 hrs incl service point), Triberg Germany ( free street parking)

This morning we drove half an hour to the Rhine Falls which is the largest waterfall in Europe. They are 150m wide and 23m high but it is the volume a water that is impressive with an average of 600m3/s in the summer. 

Our time in Switzerland was over as we headed towards Triberg Germany with a stop along the way in St.George to do some shopping while the boys listened to the Bombers win another game.

Triberg is located in the middle of the Black Forest region and is famous for its cuckoo clocks  and having the 2nd tallest falls in Germany.  We only managed to have a look at the shops, revisiting the one we bought our cuckoo clock a few years previously.

Then it was off to our sleepy spot for tonight at Shonach im Shwarzwald. We had a pleasant evening, enjoying a BBQ dinner. As we went to sleep we were hoping the the noise from the sports club next door would end shortly....

Cuckoo Clocks Triberg Germany

We spent a pleasant morning looking at the Cuckoo clock shops in Triberg. 

After much deliberating we managed to choose one that would grace our home.

As it weighs 11km we thought it best to have it delivered, rather than trying to bring it on the plane. The other bonus is that there is a service agent in Mont Albert, if we ever need to get it serviced or have warranty work carried out. How amazing is that!
So after a stroll around town we headed 3km up the road to have a look at the Worlds largest cuckoo clock. Luckily we managed to arrive on the hour and watch the 20 time pieces do their thing. 

We had a quick look at their clocks, but we were happy with our choice. From here we drove through some lovely countryside, quaint villages and colourful forests (it is autumn). 

Most villages we drove through had their timber mills.

We found a spot in the free motorhome parking area in a quiet street of Oberstrot. 

There are many walking trails ftom here. We decided to walk the 3km into Gernsbach which has some pretty buildings in its old quarter. 

Amazing where they have cigerette dispensers...this one is in a quiet suburban street!

Some one enjoyed decorating their front yard. 

By the time we made it back to Bluey we were ready for our BBQ pork chops and a cold drink (or two).
