Family Brittany

 Day 51 Wednesday 24 June 2026

For the last few days we have been driving around visiting family.

On Monday we spent the afternoon at Pascal and Jacqueline’s new place in Tressignaux. Enjoying a delicious lunch and also dinner with them and Patrick and Pierrette. Although it was a hot day it was still pleasant inside and then later under the shade playing pétanque to help with the digestion.

We said our farewells on Tuesday morning and drove to a beach on the outskirts of St.Brieuc, where we were able to find a motorhome friendly spot to go and have a refreshing swim as the temperature hits 40°c. As you may have heard there is a heatwave here…and luckily the tide was coming in. So we didnt need to walk too far out. The coast is also having a problem with green algae/seaweed which is ok when in the water but gives off toxic fumes when drying out on the beach.

We stopped at a couple of shops (air conditioned hehe) along the way to Plumaugat where we have been invited to have dinner with my cousin Martine and Gerard.

On Wednesday morning we continued on to La Bouexiere, the village where my father was born.

We called in to see my aunt Marie. At 94 she is still living at home.

Next we had lunch with my second cousin, Cecile and her delightful children. Unfortunately her husband Maxime was at work today.

We then drove 30mins  to Vitre for some new front tyres for Bluey. We had to pre order them at Euromaster. Whilst we waited we did a load of washing at  the  super market next door.

Then that night we ventured back to La Bouexiere for dinner with my cousin Annick and Fernand. They live in the house that my father grew up in.

That night we moved to stay next to a lake not far away. It seemed like a very peaceful place until the combine harvester turned up at midnight! Luckily the field was not too big so it wasn't noisy for too long.

Its been a lovely time with the family but the 40°+ heat is literally driving us out of the area.

We had also popped in at the cemetery to pay our respects to the family members that are no longer with us. We also place a plaque for my dad, affectionally known as Pepe, in remembrance to his life and family here.

Tregastel France

Day 48 Sunday 21 June 2026

We find ourselves in the very picturesque  area of the north of Brittany, the Pink Granit Coast. Spending the morning in Tregastel enjoying this beautiful place. We then drove to my cousins’ place in Port Lazo for a lovely afternoon and evening together.

We were only 15mins away from last nights sleepy spot to Trégastel , located in the heart of the Pink Granite Coast . It is known for the 17 km of rugged coastline, where fine sandy beaches, coves, and rocky formations alternate, with islets being revealed at low tide.

Being early we were able to park at the marina (2013, 2015). We went to have a stroll around

The Renote Peninsula. It is a protected natural area that features many pink granite formations, as well as coastal fauna and flora. We enjoyed some stunning views along the Customs Officers’ Path (GR34) which is a 2000km path that follows the coastline from St.Malo to St.Nazier.

From here we drove straight to my cousins, Patrick and Pierrette, place in Port Lazo, the harbour for Plouézec, just near Paimpol. Like most of the Brittany coastline it is surrounded by oyster beds.

We were spoilt with a yummy bbq lunch.

Later Pascal and Jacqueline joined us too. We then went for a walk along another part of the GR34 to the Mill Craca which has been restored.  From here we had great views across the bay and Paimpol Bréhat Island. This mill is still a landmark for boats.

Although we have been here before, today it was surrounded by gorgeous fields of hydrangeas.

Then we had another delicious meal for dinner on the terrace with views of the harbour and watching the sun set over Paimpols’ church spire.
