Jokelfjord Norway

Travelled : 104km
Stay: Jokelfjord parking area at start of a walk to a glacier (too much snow atm) toilet summer only. 70.0831 22.0085

The church in Alta.

We are finally slowing down a little. We did some shopping in Alta (Mark bought another pair of thermals!) before heading down the E6 to Kafjord to visit the Tirpitz Museum (Nk100each).  It's only small but it had a comprehensive collection and information on one the the worlds largest German warship.  It was anchored here for 2 years before being moved closer to Tromso where the Allies managed to sink it after a few failed attempts.

Further down the road we stopped for lunch.

We then continued our journey south picking out a spot from Park4night to head towards and we're not disappointed... with views of the snowy mountains plunging into the sea. Luckily it's not busy so we will probably be here on our own. If the path to the Glacier wasn't covered in snow it would have been a good hike. The other option would be to take the boat cruise on offer just down the road.

  1. What an experience you're having! Fabulous scenery, fabulous photos...just as well it's 'summer' over there, otherwise you'd be really cold! Stay warm, stay safe, carry on enjoying your travels. Cheers, Jan & Mike.
