Col du Lautaret France

This morning we set off on a hike to L’Alpe De Villar D’Arene refuge from Bluey’s parking spot in the the Col du Lautaret. It was a stunning 13km return walk taking us 4 hours. We had amazing views of La Meije and its glaciers. As well as views down the valley towards La Grave.

We also crossed over various streams and walked narrowed paths along the schist rock face. The sides were so steep it gave us a bit of vertigo.

We crossed the mountain pastures where herds of cows graze.

And we finally saw our first marmot for 2024

We then stopped at the refuge for a snack. From here we enjoyed unrestricted views of different peaks and the river down in the valley.

Needless to say we were very happy with the hike but relieved to be back in Bluey to rest the weary feet.

Later we wondered up to the Col where there are a few shops and restaurants.
