Chalon sur Saône France

It was a peaceful night on the Burgundy Canal in Veuvey sur Ouche.

The next morning we followed continued to follow it in Bluey through the Ouche Valley.

It’s a wine growing area as well.

We travelled along a major road to Chalon sur Saône.

A bit of trivia : Niepce, the inventor of photography, was born here. We managed to find a parking spot close to the centre using google as P4N had some technical issues.

We were pleased to see the market was on in the main square of the historic centre which is flanked by some lovely coloured half timber buildings.

So we meandered through the streets

Cooked delicacies
Charcuterie specialties
Olympic Games souvenirs
Ancient buildings

Eventually we came out onto the banks of the Saône River (which flows into the Rhône River in Lyon). There were a few tour boats moored up.

Did I mention it’s a wine region…

We got a walking tourist map which we then followed catching some more of the main attractions. We popped into the cloister of Saint Vincent (the church was closed for renovations).

Then it was back in Bluey towards Macon. Along the way we saw a big Roma camp.

We stopped at a dump point in Fleurville and then had lunch near here on the banks of the Saône.

The last stop was my cousin’s house near Lyon to spend the weekend. Todays journey was 182km.
