Chanaz France

We had a terrific weekend with my cousin in Montluel. Once again we were spoilt, enjoying some delicious meals and spending some lovely time together.

Sunflowers are so pretty and this one is huge…
Taking a short cut back via the forest.
The pétanque championship continues, unfortunately the Aussies lost hehe

On Sunday we drove to Chanaz, a very popular village set on the border of the Savieres Canal which connects the Rhône River and Lake Bourget. It has been used for centuries to transport goods from other countries from the Mediterranean passing Chanaz to join Geneve and Lyon. It used to take a barge 2-4weeks from Lyon to Chanaz but only 18 hours to go back down river to Lyon! By steam boat the journey was reduced to 2 days and then the railway to 4-5 hours. This saw the end of the working port in Chanaz. It is now used for tourism and pleasure boats.

After lunch we strolled through the streets.

We had a look at the old mill that is still used to grind hazelnuts making lots of different products. It was a fantastic day exploring a new area for us.
