Magdeburg Germany

Travelled:161km
Stay:Magdeburg- Stellplatz large parking on the river €8/>3nights. € Services in adjacent carpark. N52.13289 E11.64714

Our first port of call this morning was to do some washing so we were given directions to the closest Laundrymat and found a parking spot nearby in the street. After 1 1/2 hours and €9 lighter we were on our way on the autobahn to Magdeburg. We had no problems getting a spot in the stellplatz, even though there were already many motorhomes here.
The town is quite big being the capital of the Saxony-Anhalt region and a port on the river Elbe. It became the major residence of Emperor Otto I in the 10th century however it suffered alot of destruction during the Thirty Years' War and then again in WWII. However many historical buildings have since been reconstructed in the Old Town.
We got on the bikes and road along the river about 2km to the information office next to the Cathedral and got a map.  We then visited the now Protestant cathedral in which there is Emperor Otto I original tomb. Outside we admired the 104m towers.  We waited for the storm to pass before going to have a look at the very querky Gaudi inspired Green Citadel...although it is pink! It gets its name from the green oasis of the roof top gardens.
The rain came again so we decided to return to Bluey and visit the town tomorrow hopefully with dryer weather.
