Salzburg Austria

Stay: Freilassing as per last night

We caught the 8am train (€5 ea return) for 6mins to Salzburg Mulin Alstadt station. It was then only a short walk to the old town centre along the Salzach River.

We followed Rick Steve's audio guide as well as the walk in the Eyewitness Travel book. We saw all the main sites including Mozarts birthplace,

his statue,

the Dom cathedral,

St Peter's church and cemetery (where the Von Trap family hid after their performance).

From the market place where we enjoyed a sausage,

we went through several arcades that connect to the main pedestrian shopping street. Many shops have wrought iron signs picturing their wares...can you guess any?

We then crossed the river to the right bank. This had been heavily bombed in WWII and is now known as the New Town. We saw Mozarts house in which he lived until be was 25 and spent some time relaxing in the Shloss Mirabell gardens before heading back to the train station.

Some of the souvenirs you xan get from here!

We had a detour stop at the monk brewery Augultinee Beer House and enjoyed a stein or 2 along with some traditional fare...feeling very sated we made our way back to Bluey to recover!

Step 1: choose your stein

Step 2:rinse your stein

Step 3: fill your stein

Step 4 : most importantly drink your stein

Step 5: eat some traditional food so you can drink more stein!

Healthy version. Fish n stick!
