Visited: Bad Ischl
We realised this morning that Mike and Jan were only 20mins away in Bad Reichenall (Germany) in a nice stellplatz. We arrived just after 7:30am and knocked on their door just before 8am to have a cup of tea...an hour later after sharing some travel stories we were saying our goodbye's for this year as we head in opposite directions.
We then doubled back and drove over the top of Salzburg and then headed to Sankt Gilgen and drove along Wolfgang lake
to Bad Ischl. It is a very popular health resort town since the discovery of saltwater springs in the 16th century. The future emperor, Franz Joseph 1, and his wife spent their summer holidays at the Kaiservilla, where the declaration of war against Serbia was signed on 1 Aug 1914, signalling the start of WWI. We opted not to visit the building and just had a stroll around town and through the market.
From here we followed the Traun River to Ebensee and found a nice spot next to Traunsee, Austria's deepest lake. We chilled out and went for a walk and a taste of the local beer before dinner.
