Salamanca Day 2 Spain

Travelled:108km
Visited: Salamanca
Stay:Avila- free parking, no services GPS N40.66111 W4.70472

After the thunderstorm had cleared we once again rode into Salamanca and visited the Medieval Cathedral Towers.
We climbed up some windy stairwells to various rooms, one of which we were able to look into the old cathedral from above. There was lots of various  information on display. We were then able to venture out onto a viewing platform inside the new cathedral.

From here we took more windy stairs up to the bell tower which offered great city views. It was truly fantastic.

We wondered around a bit more and then visited the Convent of San Esteban. Again a wonderful place. The facade is highly decorated and completed in 1610. The cloister was breath taking with its Renaissance arches and broad pillars decorated with medallions. They had put mirrors in strategic places to view the ceilings etc.

We then went up the beautiful stone staircase built in 1556, to the choir stalls and were amazed at the size of the hyme books required for the 108 monks to beable to see from where they are seated. Again the church had a grand 'golden' alterpiece which is 30m high and 14m wide.

Feeling awed once again, we headed for some refreshments before packing up Bluey and driving to our next destination, Avila. Unfortunately the rain has prevented us from a visit today. Hopefully tomorrow the sun will shine once more.
