Porto Portugal

Travelled:0km
Visited: Porto
Stay: Anvites - Gaia Biological Park

Spent the morning catching up on bookwork, photos and planning the next month's destinations. We then caught the 14:00 bus into Porto.
We were a bit taken back by the overall 'condition' of Porto. It needs a good high pressure cleaning and unfortunately alot of buildings have been left to turn to rubble. Negativity aside,  there were some very interesting buildings and areas we visited. Porto is on the Douro River which was integral to the Port  (fortified wine) industry. Special boats were used to transport the barrels and you can take a boat cruise along the river.

We firstly visited the Cathedral from here we had views of the cascading houses down to the banks of the river.

We walked down the medieval streets to the Ribeira river front area and had a bite to eat in one of the many restaurants.

We then walked up to the S. Francisco Church with its very glittery interior and the catacombs.

We admired the tiles in the train stations atrium

Had had walk through town

and then went to the famous bookshop used in the Harry Potter movies. Mark was very impressed with the single staircase going into a double geometric staircase. Sneaked in a couple of photos.

We finished our day walking over the bridge and looking down at both sides of the river from up high.
