Douro River Portugal

Travelled:118km
Visited: Douro River
Stay: Torre de Moncorvo-free parking, services, WC and hot showers, picnic tables and great views. GPS N41.18083 W7.04167

After buying some cherries, bread and smoked meat from the market we continued our journey along the Douro River and this time we were at water level not 400m above. There were lots more vine yards and as we got higher, also some fruit trees.

During lunch Mark listened to the Bombers beat Adelaide. Feeling contented we ventured on.  We were luck enough to watch a cruise boat go through the huge lock.

Then on the way to our planned destination we saw a sign for an aire and drove in for a quick look. What we saw was pleasing and as we have had the experience before of going on and ending up somewhere not too good, we decided to stay. There are picnic tables on the only grass in the district (its a lot dryer here) with a valley view and free hot showers and toilet. Amazing. Some have even plugged themselves into the electricity there. Had a pleasant afternoon and had a chat to the other motorhomers - all French.
