Verona Italy

Travelled:143km
Stay:Verona Italy- paid dedicated parking area and service point €10/24hr N45.4343 E10.9780

We drove about 1.5 hrs along the motorway this time costing €11, but it’s worth it as all other routes were at least 30mins longer. We arrived at the aire/sosta in Verona around 10am and there were plenty of spots which filled up within the hour.

We walked straight into the centre and first came across Castlevecchio and we took in the views from Ponte Scaligero, a medieval bridge.

After cooling down with some gelati we managed a quick look in the beautiful St.Anastasia church before a wedding.

Then we visited the Duomo, Verona’s Cathedral. The €3 ticket included an audio guide which helped us appreciate the finer details.

We ate lunch in an Osteria (a small tavern/restaurant) eating some authentic Italian food.

In Piazza Bra was the Arena completed in AD30 and is the worlds 3rd largest Roman amphitheatre. It is now used for opera productions.

We strolled down to Piazza Erbe which is full of stalls selling touristy products. It’s a picturesque square with some lovely building, a column and a fountain.

We braved the crowds so that we could have a glimpse of the fictional Juliet’s house and balcony.

The afternoon storm rolled in and we waited it out in a closed cafe before making a dash for it...of course the rain stopped by the time we made it back!
