Lake Balaton Hungary

Travelled:132km
Stay:Balatonfoldvar Lake Balaton free parking N46.8455 E17.8658
Visited: Memento Park, Budapest.

Our stay in Budapest has ended. It’s a great place and we could easily come back as there is so much to see.

After packing up we drove 12km to the outskirts of Budapest to have a look at Memento Park (1500huf each).

It is here that they put all the communist statues that were once in Budapest. There were 42 pieces including Communist leaders, soldiers of the Red Army and Liberation Army Soldier.

There is also a replica of Stalin’s boots which was all that was left of his statue when in 1956 the revolutionists cut him down at the knees!

We could also get a close up of a Trabant car who body is made up of pressed plastic.

We then watched some documentaries showing the training of the secret police.
We drove to Lake Balaton, the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe. We stopped at Balatonfoldvar on the Southern side which is more popular due to its warmer waters and sandy beaches where we spent a lovely afternoon walking along the shore taking in the resort atmosphere. We even had a dip in the lake. In the evening we were treated to a beautiful sunset.
