Along the way to Melk we stopped in Ottenschlag for a quick shop and services. We then drove through some pretty countryside down to Spitz and then along the Danube to Melk.

We parked for free at the Abbey. Whilst Tom and Kristy went to visit the Abbey (which we have previously visited in 2014) we went for a walk into the old town of Melk. 

After a bite of lunch we followed the Danube until Mautern an der Donau. 

We chose a spot which seemed quite nice on the grass looking out on to the river.

After the shower had passed we went for a stroll into Krems, over the bridge, on the otherside of the river.

We popped into an apricot distillery and sampled their liquors and schnapps, walking out with a few purchases. I bought apricot syrup.
