Visited: Regensburg

Whilst the boys listened to the Bombers game, the rest of us went for a pleasant stroll back into the old town of Amberg.

We then drove through some pretty countryside to Regensburg which is situated on the banks of the Danube River. The city centre is a UNSECO World Heritage Site.

We made our way to the Steinerne Brücke- a medieval bridge over the Danube situated next to an enormous salt warehouse topped with a vast five storey roof.
They have been selling Regensburg sausages here since the 12thC at the famous Wurstkuche (sausage kitchen).

The city once had 60 towers modelled on Northen Italian architecture. Only 20 remain, one of which is Goliathhaus, where Oskar Schindler once lived in 1945.
We continued on over the bridge and chose a biergarten to have lunch.

We then returned into the old quarter making our way to the 15thC Rathaus.

From here we went to the Schloss Thurn und Taxis that is made up of buildings and churches of the former St.Emmeram Abbey.
After having a look inside the church we made our way to the very imposing Dom St.Peter. Inside there where some beautiful stain glass widows.

We decided that we would drive further to find a nice spot for tonight in Niederalteich and we were not disappointed. For the rest of the day we enjoyed the view of the Danube.
