Alpe d'Huez to Briançon France

Travelled:102km
Visited: la Grave, Col du Lautaret, Col du Galibier, Briançon
Stay: Briançon-aire free parking and services. GPS N44°53.418' E6°37.767'

After attending a few chores this morning and a visit to the Tourist Office for some free wifi, we were driving down the mountain and the 21 switchbacks! Our first stop today was at the pretty village of la Grave. We had a pleasant walk around and even though we decided not to take the gondola up to the glacier of la Meije 3200m, we enjoyed a terrific view of the mountain.

We then had lunch in one of the parking areas at the Col de Lautaret 2057m gazing at the same beautiful mountain.

As the weather was clear we climbed up (in Bluey and #25) to the top of the Col du Galibier. Our second visit but well worth the effort as the views were fantastic and quite an arid landscape with unusual sink holes. After a walk to the Orientation Table we were heading back down to Briançon.

Once parked in the aire we went walking up to visit the old fortified Vauban quarter. After admiring the views and the pretty coloured buildings along narrow cobbled streets, we headed back to Bluey for some yummy dinner cooked by Robyn.
