Having already done the tourist visit of Saluzzo last year, we were content just to stroll around and of course have the best coffee and croissants for breakfast. Delicious.
We then drove to Genola to Grosso Vacanze where Bluey came from, so we could buy some extra bits and pieces and also sort out what was needed for the gas bottles. This took the rest of the morning, but after a pit stop and lunch we were once again off on the road following our Eyewitness Travel book on the Back Roads of Northern Italy. The next town was Savigliano which was once part of the Savoy kingdom. We took a look at the triumphal arch (1585) which leads onto the broad arcaded Piazza Santarosa,
where we had a beer in memory of Mark's godfather John. A wonderful man who we will greatly miss. Our thoughts are with his family.
We popped into a few churches along the way too and said a prayer for him aswell.
Not quite the cafe you imagined to be in Italy!
We then made our way to Bra (its name comes from briada-planting vines in rows wide enough to grow grain in between). For you foodies out there, it is the headquarters of the Slow Food movement. Tonight we are looking forward to eating the Bra Sausage which boasts a Royal Grant (1847) stating that it can only be made in Bra. We spent the afternoon being wowed by various churches, especially St.Claire (1742) which was beautifuly painted inside. So much history....
