Mont Blanc France

Travelled: 0km
Visited:Aiguille du Midi, Montenvers Mer de Glace
Stay: Chamonix - free parking next to paragliding landing field

We woke up early and looked out at the sky as well as consulting google for the weather. Although it was a bit cloudy, it was breaking up. By 7:15 we were waiting in line to buy our tickets. We caught the 8am gondola 1030alt. and were up at the Aiguille du Midi 3842m 20mn later gazing out at the breath taking scenery of the beautiful snow covered mountains. We decided to take another gondola across to the Hellbronner peak in Italy. A 50mn return journey travelling above the seracs and crevasses of the glacier. We spotted lots of walkers scattered all over the mountain. There are 3 main walking routes to the summit of Mont Blanc.

We then did the 'Step into the Void' experience of stepping out into a glass box that is protruding 1000m above ground.

The rest of the time was spent taking in the views from the many terraces before heading back down to Chamonix.

We then took the little red train up to Montenvers and went to visit the ice cave in the Mer de Glace Glacier. It is the largest one in France. We took the gondola and walked up and down the nearly 400 steps. After we had a look at the little museum in at the hotel and the saw some interesting information on Glaciers.

The line of people to go back down the mountain to Chamonix was huge, so we thought we may as well walk 1 hr 40mn instead. We had forgotten that we had to decsend nearly 1000m alt. So it was DOWN the mountain we went. Feeling a little sore we decided to enjoy a simple dinner of moules at our camp spot and finish the night with a games of boules! (Blooms 1 game to Bakey 0)
