Pic du Midi France

Travelled:60km from Luz St Sauveur
Visited:Pic du Midi
Stay:Ste Marie de Campan-aire free parking and services GPS N42°58.959' E0°13.692'

Another fantastic day. The clear skies this morning made us decide to go to the Pic du Midi straight after our coffee. Had a quick pit stop at the boulangerie in Luz St Sauveur for the baguette and a raspberry tart.
We had a picturesque drive up to the Col du Tourmalet at 2115m alt., another Tour de France favourite. Around Bareges, the flood damage from last year was still evident. We were happy we had set off early as the road to la Mongie was nearly deserted.

After a quick breakfast we were on the second cable car taking us1000m up the mountain. At 2877m alt. we got a spectacular view of the Pyrenees and the valley. It was awesome! We spent 3 hours taking it all in, which also included a museum explaining the history of the observatory since the 19th century.

Once back down at the ski resort we had a yummy lunch, enjoying the sunshine. Then we descended into the valley and stopped in Ste Marie de Campan, after taking a detour to the lake at Payolle. We had a stroll around the very small village and relaxed.
