The Pyrenees France

Travelled:79km from Ste Marie
Visited:St Lary Soulan, Loudenvielle
Stay: Peyresourde Balestas ski resort, free parking and services GPS N42 47.4354' E0 26.5524'

Very low cloud cover today and drizzle, not very good to see the high peaks of the Pyrenees. We started the day driving up and over the Col d'Aspin, then up the valley to St Lary Soulan. A pretty town with lots of activities on offer (thermal baths, hikes, canyoning, mountain bikes, cable car rides, parasailing...the works). We ended up just walking around town and the market in the drizzle.

Specialties of the region. Giant brioche and

A type of brioche made by drizzling mixture over a spinning cone in front of a fire (traditionally)

It took nearly an hour to get to this size. They are very expensive too.

After lunch we went over the Col Val Louron-Azet. On the top we meet Bob, an Australian walking sections of the GR10 (walk from the Mediteranean across the Pyrenees to the Atlantic).
We then zigged zagged down the mountain into the village of Loudenvielle. Being a long weekend in France and the start of the Grand Depart, the aire was full. We found a parking spot near the lake, but are not allowed to stay overnight. After a walk we headed up the next Col de Peyresoude and found a spot at the ski resort.
There were a lot more zig zags and also tighter.
