Haute Savoie area

Travelled:86km
Visited: le Grand Bornand, la Roche sur Foron
Stay: la Roche sur Foron-aire free parking and services GPS N46°03.846' E6°18.780'
That rainy day feeling again but we still managed to enjoy the pretty villages with their lovely chalets in the valleys.
We also accomplished to purchase the 'tax stamps' required for Mark's visa at the Government Financial Bureau, as we had no luck at the several Tabac stores we had asked. Then when we stopped at the tourist office in St Jean de Sixt, we were able to get the Westpac docs regarding the fraudulent payments, printed, signed and scanned for emailing back to them. Further up the road we walked around the tourist village of le Grand Bornand. Luckily we weren't there to shop as the majority were closed for 'the lunch'. There were some different sculptures of cows scattered around the village.
So having stretched our legs and admired a few chalets we were on the road again through the Gorges d'Eveaux and out into the valley, stopping at the aire in la Roche sur Foron.
From 1032 for 200 years la Roche was the capital of the County of Geneva. The castle from that time has since been destroyed but the Tower survived and was rebuilt by the Capuchin Monks in the 19th century. We climbed the 137 steps to the top and we were rewarded with a lovely view of the surrounding  Arve Valley but could not see the snow capped mountains as the cloud cover was too low. We managed a walk around the old quarter before the rain started again and so we then scampered back to Bluey.
