Col de Menté Pyrenees France

Travelled:74km
Visited: Bagnères de Luchon, Col de Menté
Stay:Station du Mourtis at the Col de Menté- free parking, no services GPS N42°54.6972' E0°45.9294'

When we woke up we were still in the clouds, but by the time we left after listening to the Bombers thrash the Pies, the sun was shining and we had a clear view driving down the mountain into Bagnères de Luchon.

This has been a thermal town since the Roman era due to the 72°c sodium suphate rich water gushing out of the ground. It is still a very popular town and was very busy with people enjoying lovely day. We enjoyed our walk around and eating some very fresh vanilla slices (mine was flavoured salty caramel!)Yum.

From here we went into Spain via the Col du Portillon and then along a short stretch of road (17km) in the Valley, back into France. At St.Béat on the Garonne River and famous for its white marble, we followed the road up to the Col de Menté.

We did a lovely walk up through the forest to a lookout and then found a spot to stay overnight in the ski station of Mourtis.
