To Riqueval

Travelled:93km
Stay: Riqueval - Aire free parking, € services N49°57.079' E3°14.131' / 49.95233, 3.23523

A real pea souper this morning, so we decided to do a bit of driving and set off towards some WW1 sites. A few kilometres out of St.Quentin we stopped to visit the Australian 4th Division War Memorial in a paddock near Bellinglise, where they had fought their last battle in WW1.

We were then heading towards Amiens to the battle fields and monuments there, but on the way we stopped at an Aire in Riqueval. We heard a leak in one of our tyres, so Mark did his first tyre change on Bluey. Luckily we had flat ground and the rain had stopped! We decided that it would be best to double back to St.Quentin to fix the flat tyre, but no use going today, Sunday, so we parked up for the night.

We found, to our delight the tourist information was open, so we got some more info on the battlefields and realised that it was also a museum for tugboats used to tow boats through the longest (5.67km) canal tunnel in France. Everyday is a surprise!
