Basel, Switzerland

Travelled:
Stay: Basel - parked on road outside Godfather's apartment

Camy, as our GPS is affectionately called, took us back into France to Basel. It may have not have been our choice but we did enjoy the country side and the villages we drove through with the very distinct style of buildings. We were warmly welcomed to my Godfather's home in Basel and enjoyed a delicious lunch and yummy apricot tart and chocolate muffins cooked by his wife Gaby. We then took a stroll in the Basel centre and along the Rhine River. We were astonished at how many people were floating down the fast flowing river in the middle of the city (I wouldn't float down the Yarra!) and most of them had their clothing in a dry sack floating with them. Obviously this is common practice with even a special event being held on Tuesday when hundreds of people will do this officially. We then went out and enjoyed a traditional Swiss meal at a restaurant. A little embarrassing when I went to pay as the credit card machine was on the blink and I didn"t have enough cash to pay...so we had to all chip in and even had to give them some euros instead of Swiss francs!
