Besançon to Baume les Dames

Travelled:43km
Stay : Baume les Dames - Aire €9 N47°20.403' E6°21.436' / 47.3412, 6.35889

Spent the morning riding around the old quarter of Besançon, exploring a view Vauban structures. He was very popular back in the day for designing many fortifications. Just in Besançon there are 19 of his buildings. We also ducked our head in a few Churches. We also saw the buildings that Victor Hugo and the Lumiere Brothers were born in. All in all we enjoyed the character of this town. We then headed up the National Highway and found an Aire near the Doubs River in the town of Baume les Dames. This Aire offers unmetered electricity which we needed as our fridge is struggling to go down in temperature after the hot days we have had. This is only the second time we have plugged in 4 months! It is in a nice situation and is very popular. There are bike paths along the river and into town as well a spot for the river boats to moor. As it was raining we watched a movie for the first time. Then managed to go for a walk along the river before dinner.
