Spent an interesting day visiting sites if the Maginot Line. Firstly we visiting a small section just out of Hatten in Esch.

Then we went to the Museum in Hatten, which actually located 1km behind the Maginot Line and was a barrack for the blockhouse soldiers. There was an amazing amount of equipment, vehicles and displays, along with models of many of the Maginot Line bunkers. It also detailed the battle between the Americans and the Germans, which destroyed much of the village.

Next was the Fort of Schoenenbourg. This was the most heavily bombarded structure on the Maginot Line in 1940. We walked 2800m through the galleries at 30 metres underground and discovered authentic barracks, command post and combat blocks all equipped with all its original elements. It was fascinating.

Over 2 hours later we headed to the Aire in Bitche, travelling through the forest and pretty villages.
