To Metz

Travelled: 131km
Stay: Metz -Aire free parking and services N49°07.423' E6°10.134' / 49.1232, 6.16847

Woke up to heavy rain and nearing to empty cupboards and fridge, so we headed off towards Metz and stopped at the next town to do some shopping. Once we were filled up, our next stop was the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial. This is the largest American WWII cemetery in Europe with 10,489 soldiers buried and acknowledgement to 444 missing in action. It was very moving looking at the sea of white crosses over the 113.5 acres of green lawn.

Metz was our next destination and after finding a spot in the large but busy car park, we walked into the centre of town and were taken back by the large sandstone buildings, in particular the Cathedral, which we will visit tomorrow.
