Uralla, Armidale to Dangars Gorge NSW

Last night we used the Solarscreen for the first time against the cold … not sure if it was if it was a warmer night but this morning it was 8°c in Buster and no ice on the windscreen !

After having a chat with our neighbours we make a move towards Uralla along the Thunderbolts Way. This is Captain Thunderbolt country, a bushranger that between 1865 to 1870 committed 86 robberies in the area before being shot and killed, then to be buried in the cemetery here.

We have breakfast and enjoy a stroll in the sunshine having a look at some of the heritage buildings. Many of them have lovely iron laced verandas from the local foundry which is still operating here from 1872.
We dump and fill then pay our respects to dear old Captain Thunderbolt.
Then we drive again along the New England Highway to Armidale. We park up at the Tourist Information Centre ( my favourite place haha) and get some great maps. We have a walk along the mall.
Marks tempted … do you think he could do the challenge?
After we filled up Busters fridge at Coles we head 21km out of town to Dangars Gorge in the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. Before we go we needed to book our site for $6. We chose #7 which ended up being perfect.
We have some lunch and then set off to explore the gorge and falls (120m drop). During our 4km walk the lookouts offered spectacular views.

We return to Buster and enjoy the evening in-front of the fire ( wood provided). Cheers.
