Girraween National Park QLD

This morning we passed the border into Queensland and drove into the Girraween National Park. This is known as Granite Belt country, After some breakfast we enjoyed a 3km walk to the Granite Arch and along the Bald Rock Creek loop trail.

View of Pyramid Hill
We then walked just over 5km return to Castle Rock where we had to scrambled over the granite rock to the summit which offered amazing 360° views. I did suffer a bit of vertigo looking down and the wind gusts were a bit unnerving but it was worth it.

This rock formation has no name..what would you call it? mark offered to give a demonstration. Haha
We took the Highland Drive #7 out of the park via Eukey to Stanthorpe which prospered in the 1870’s due to a tin mining boom. The post office built in 1901 was the first one built after the federation of the colonies.
We were intrigued by the Armistice Way with towns named after french towns .. Amiens, Pozieres, Bapaume and Passchendaele. This area was part of a resettlement scheme for WWI returning soldiers.
The Armistice train museum.
There were many fruit and vegetable farms, some still going while others were abandoned.
We then settled in at a rest stop in Dalveen.
