Ungarie to Jemalong Wier NSW

Feeling happy to wake to sunny skies this morning. After a coffee we crossed the road and did the short wetland walk.

Then we were on the road again in the Bland Shire. They have a saying ‘Bland is far from Dull (Scotland) and Boring (Florida) haha.

Yesterday we picked up from the tourist office a brochure on Ungarie and Mark couldn’t not go to see the Big Footy dedicated to the 4 Daniher brothers who played for Essendon FC. We travelled in a north westerly direction for 45km and parked next to the 800kg fibreglass Sherrin that had been installed only in 2018.

In the same park was a 2.7m long chainsaw sculpture representing the towns major industry done by the World No1 Brandon Kroon.

There was also a lovely mural on the museum wall.

Not far away were the War Murals and Globe done by Simon White ( currently painting the West Wyalong sign photographed yesterday). Both murals and globe depict where the Ungarie men and women have served in the wars from 1890 to present day. The RSL park is flanked by 2 lone pines grown from the original in Turkey.

From here we could either turn back the way we came via West Wyalong or take a more direct route to Forbes…We took the later and 105km of mostly gravel and pot holed roads we took a left turn into Jemalong Wier. We were just stopping for a cuppa but liked it so much we decided to stay.
