Dorrigo NP to Guy Fawkes River NP NSW

About 4km out of Dorrigo was the National Park. I wasn’t too happy to see that the leaches are so bad here that they have got sculptures of them… let’s hope they aren’t that big!

We walked out the 50m on the Skywalk to admire the views to the coast.

We then drove 1km to the Glade Picnic area to walk down to Crystal Falls (3.5km/1 hour return). It took us through some very lush and damp rainforest with some great looking trees and plants.

We then came upon a suspension bridge with a view of the very pretty falls.

We were then able to walk behind the falls for a very unique experience.
After our trek back up the hills to Buster we decided that due to the weather we would continue on. (Got to leave something to explore next time we come back this way).

Back on the otherside of town was a 50km forest road scenic drive. The going was quite rough in sections but Buster passed with flying colours thanks to Mark’s driving.

About half way we stopped at Platypus Flat Picnic/camping area in the Nymboi-Bunderay NP for some lunch. It was very picturesque on the banks of the river.
Near the end of the loop track we went to have a look at the magnificent stand of tallowwood trees that were saved from the axe of the woodchoppers at the behest of a professional forester, Norman Jolly.
The trees are estimated at over 600 years old and soar more than 55m high. We have seen bigger trees, but these were still impressive even in the rain.
Further along we turn off the Armidale Grafton Road and take another dirt track for 29km to Chaelundi Camping area in the Guy Fawkes River NP. It’s slow going as Mark has to concentrate on the rough terrain. At the entrance of the park we get some reception and quickly book a site online ($12.30p/night).  After another 9km we eventually arrive and are pleasantly surprised. We settle in campsite #1 and get the fire going enjoying a few drinks.
