New England NP to Dorrigo NSW

This morning we enjoyed a very pleasant 4km walk to the Wollomombi and Chandler Falls lookouts.

Top of Wollomombi Falls

View of Chandler Falls.

Then it was in the road again. Destination Point Lookout in the World Heritage Listed New England National Park, Australia’s second oldest park since 1935.

The last bit of the road is narrow and we need to avoid a few low branches before reaching the carpark at 1563m altitude.
We do the short loop track through an enchanted forest with trees draped with hanging moss.
The lookouts offered a magnificent panorama all the way to the Pacific Ocean 70km away.
Some of the other track are closed, but we drive back down the road and stop to walk out to Platypus Lookout giving us another view of the same valley. We pop in at the campsite and stop for lunch then drive back out and continue on to Ebor Falls in the Guy Fawkes River NP. Unfortunately upgrade works were in progress and we could only see the falls from the lower lookout.
The road to Dorrigo was through some beautiful rolling farm land. The area is also an important for its timber. Just 2km from the town centre was Dangar Falls. After admiring the falls from the viewing platform, we take the short walk down to the base.
Calling it a day, we settle in at the Showgrounds for the night ready for the Bombers match.
