Gulgong to Coolah NSW

The cold artic change sweeping the south east of Australia has caught up with us and so it’s a wet and cold start so we decided to move on. Just out of Wellington on the road to Gulgong we are amazed at the huge solar farm that is still expanding.
We were pleasantly surprised with Gulgong a remarkable gold mining town with over 130 heritage building. Part of its unique appeal is because the main roads follow the original tracks the horses and bullocks took.

We park outside the pub and start our walk at Coronation Park where there is a guide to the 70 tiles of the Symbol Trail placed randomly along the Mayne Street. The symbols were designed during the gold rush era by the itinerant prospectors, tramps and swaggies travelling around in search of work, food, places to stay etc.

We admire the picturesque buildings some with the old fashioned iron-laced verandas.

The old Mile Post and a 100 years old horse trough.
The Pioneer Museum was once a Bakery that was featured on the old $10 note.

Lovely ANZAC memorial rotunda
Gold mine on the hill that can be visited.

We did a 10km detour to Dunedoo (Dunnydo).

While the cuppa brewed we had a look at the Silo Art and read about the history of the town.

We continue on to Coolah so that we can settle in a spot at the Sports Club in time to put the footy on.

Later we had a walk through town and dined at the club (Chinese meal).
