Stay: Barker Rocks, Yorke Peninsula South Australia - $10pn for any of bush camping sites throughout the peninsula. (-34.715616, 137.486699)
After our morning walk along the Stenhouse Bay Lookout track we stopped in Marion Bay to have a stroll along the jetty.
We then headed north to Corny Point Lighthouse built in 1881 to help protect the windjammers from the dangerous rocks and reefs.
At Dunn Point we looked at the extensive historical photographic display.
Our next stop was in Minlaton which is often referred to the ‘Barley Capital of the World’ and is located in the heart of some of Australia’s most productive farming land. We had a look at WWI pilot Captain Harry Butler’s aircraft the Red Devil. He made history in 1919 by flying the first air mail across the sea ( Adelaide to Minlaton) in the Southern Hemisphere.
After a hot shower we made our way out of town to Barker Rocks, one of the numerous bush camps provided by the Yorke Shire throughout the peninsula for $10pn. We were lucky to get a sea view spot and enjoyed a pleasant afternoon with walks along the beach and rocks as well as gazing over the gulf.
