Elliston to Talia Beach, Eyre Peninsula SA

Travelled:163km to Elliston and Talia Beach, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia
Stay: Near The Tub, Talia Caves free bush camp (-33.323755,134.791432)

After our morning coffee we packed up and continued our journey north. Breakfast was at Lake Hamilton Eating House. Built around 1857 and was used until 1880 for a stopping place for coaches travelling to the Far West Coast.

Further up the road we came to Elliston situated on the shores of Waterloo Bay, known for its rugged and scenic coastline. The town is now a centre for a cereal growing, mixed farming and fishing community.
Our first stop was at the community hall to admire the mural depicting the towns history.

We couldn’t resist our new travelling companion..

We drove along the Little Bay Clifftop Drive admiring the superb views. (Took the opportunity of good internet reception to apply for the WA border permit, answering most questions with ‘unknown, travelling in caravan’ and got accepted….let’s see how we go when we get to Eucla).

We couldn’t resist the heritage listed 424m jetty and spotted a huge stingray.
Another local attraction is the Anxious Bay Clifftop Drive which includes a few sculptures along the way..

We were looking forward to some fresh bread baked and sold at a road side stop in Colton but it was Closed.

So we continued on to Talia Caves/beach offering amazing coastal views.
We found our little bit of paradise not far from what they call The Tub, a large crater with a tunnel connected to the sea. It is up to 30 m deep by 50m wide.

Later we walked up to the cave known as the Woolshed, a large cavern carved into the cliff by wave action. The rock formations and colours were impressive.

Returning to Traky we enjoyed our other 15 Coffin Bay oysters and watched the sunset on another beautiful day.
