Stay: 1 of 3 free spots at the RV parking in Ardrossan. Dump point, no facilities
Visited: Ardrossan Museum $5pp
Yesterday we spent with fellow EU Motorhomers, Ewout and Jenny. They had inspired us to follow our dream in 2013 and we were thrilled to finally be able to catch up with them in person! It was a pleasure to hear and share our adventures abroad and in Oz and hope we will meet again. Mark was excited to try out the famous Koala suit and we had the obligatory selfie before we said our good byes…
Then it was time to hit the road once again. We took the south road north and tuned left after Port Wakefield into the Yorke Peninsula. We decided to try our luck for a much sort after spot in the RV Park in Ardrossan and managed to get the last one.
After lunch we set off to explore the township to discover that it is a thriving sea port and agricultural centre. From the cliff top lookout of views of the Gulf St.Vincent we also spot the huge silos that can store up to 42,000 tonnes of grain. The 1km jetty there built in 1950 is primarily used for loading dolomite from the nearby mine.
We ventured down from the red cliffs to stroll up the historical jetty built in 1876 to support supplies coming into and out of town via ketches. The jetty is also ideal for fishing and catching Blue Swimmer Crabs.
We returned via the main street and popped into the information centre/museum which is located in the only remaining buildings of the Smith Factory that produced one of the ten most important Australian inventions, the Stump Jump plough. It was simple but revolutionary for its time.
The museum had also many other displays.
The rest of the afternoon was spent back in Traky with a few drinks and chats.
Cheers…
