Alligator Gorge to Fitzgerald Bay SA

Travelled: 204km via Alligator Gorge Mt Remarkable, Port Augusta (shop and fuel) to Fitzgerald Bay Eyre Peninsula (-32.916142, 137.750911) free bush camp

After a peaceful night we got up, had a coffee, went for a walk along the river/estuary/mangroves and then packed up and continued our journey.

We did a bit of a detour to Alligator Gorge in The Mt Remarkable NP, located on the north side just past the small historic town of Wilmington.

We took the punt on taking the caravan even tho the signs warned us not to. The cruiser and Traky were fine on the steep inclines but others may have struggled.

We parked for a quick escape and had breakfast. There are a few hikes from here but we decided to do the Narrows Circuit 3km/1hour. We began with a steep decent via steps down to the Alligator gorge floor.

From here we were awed by the majestic rugged cliffs, with Red Gums setting the scene below. We took our time and many photos that may show off the beauty here.

After a cuppa we did a short walk to a lookout but we thought it was a bit anticlimactic.

So now we powered back up the hill and low geared down hills back to the entrance in one piece towards our next destination.
We double backed through the picturesque Horrocks Pass.

They are constructing a renewable energy park with 50 wind turbines and 250,000 solar panels next to the Sundrop greenhouses.

We did a quick pit stop in Port Augusta for food and fuel and an hour later we were setup in the idyllic shores of Fitzgerald Bay. Lunch was nibbles overlooking the water and the rest of the day slipped by…
