Saillon

Travelled: 202km
Stay:Saillon-free parking, no services N46.17380 E7.19417
Visited: Avenches, Romont, drive via les Diablerets

Before we departed we said our farewells to Hans over coffee and breakfast. Once again we would like to thank him and Eliane for all their efforts and their warm welcome and for the rest of the family in making the effort in coming by to say hello. It is so lovely to catch up and always so hard to say goodbye.

On our way out we quickly popped in to use the free service at the aire and then took the minor roads. Just after Lake Morat we came across a pretty town of Avenches. We hopped out for a quick look around and bumped into a Swiss guy living in New Zealand. We stopped for an interesting chat, exchanging life stories and then we continued on.
 Roman Theatre

Its Nespresso country!!! It doesn;t take much to get us excited....

The Gps then took us past Romont, which sat on a hill above the valley making us want to stop again for an explore. To our surprise, the town provided a free aire with parking for 2 on very level spots with views of the valley. After some lunch we proceeded to walk along the lower and upper ramparts and then back through the village back to Bluey.

This is the view we would get on a clear day....

We then took the autoroute to Aigle from which we did a 50km round tour via les Diablerets. We weren't too sure how much we would be able to see as the clouds and rain have not fully dissipated. Never the less we did have some lovely views of the snowy mountains and pretty chalets scattered over the green fields and so we enjoyed our little diversion off the main road.

 Lake Leman

Then it was back on the autoroute to our chosen spot for tonight in Saillon. Before parking up we went 5km further through the vineyards to Chamoson to the Cave of Simon Maye. Why? because Mark had worked for them picking grapes 40 years ago in 1976! although he could not recall the actual spot, he had brought home a bottle from here and still has it in the cupboard at home, so we got the name off the bottle! We planned to go back tomorrow morning as it was closed today, but on our way back to our parking spot a warning light on Bluey came on. We called a couple of Ford places near by but they were closed so we will have to deal with this issue first before continuing our journey....keep posted.
