Torrent Neuf walk

Travelled : 64km
Stay: Savieze- free parking, paid services N46.25665 E7.34324
Visited: Torrent Neuf walk

We were on the phone to Ford first thing this morning and able to be seen straight away at the service center in Sierre, a short drive up the valley. They found the problem and we need to wait for a part to be delivered tomorrow.

Just as we turned up at Ford the food van arrived..breakfast time.

So we doubled back to Sion and then made our way to a walk just near Savieze that  Mark had read about in Matt and Jo's blog eurotouring.com.uk Fortunately we had not given up finding the place after our GPS took us on a steep and narrow track that  Bluey just couldn't get up especially in the wet weather.

We managed to get nice and close to the start of the walk, parking on the side of the road (N46.25949 E7.32905) although there was a larger area just before. It was 11am when we set off following the small canal to a little chapel and past the Cafe (closed today). The clouds were still low but were slowly lifting revealing views to the valley and we caught glimpses of the snow capped mountain peaks. The path was well signed with explanations on the amazing construction methods of the wooden sections of the canal that had been attached to the side of the mountain when necessary.  They had even dug a tunnel in one section. In the areas that were now too dangerous to walk along, suspension bridges had been built. It was a truly enjoyable walk and very easy as the gradient was quite flat. We reached the cafe at the other end, stopped briefly before turning back the way we came.

Must admit I was a tad worried when I saw this sign, but luckily the last bear here was in 1902 except for the cuddly one below!

Glad they have modernised the canal for us - ie widened the blanks!

Mark really wanted to ring the bell...we bought a candle in memory of our loved ones no longer with us.

Glad they have put up the protective mesh as would hate to be hit by the size of rock that left this dint!
The end cafe.
We saw some deer above us. There are warning signs about being careful of rock falls caused by them

It certainly was hard work!

We took Bluey to the large P2 parking area, where there is also a service point. As we could get some free water, we gave Bluey a wash inside and out and even did a load of washing.
