Aarau to Solothurn

Travelled : 88km
Stay: Frinvillier - free parking at Gorge N47.1675 E7.25351
Visited: Aarau,  Olten, Wangen Aare,  Solothurn, Gorge

We made most of the sunshine today and slowly made our way around stopping to visit various towns. Our first stop was just down the road from where we stayed last night. We began the morning in the fog which quickly got burned up by the sun. We parked at the swimming pool for free and just had a short walk into the old town. We were immediately struck by the beautifully painted stepped gables in the main street. We got some information from the tourist office and followed their map to all the main sights. The church's belfry was also quite impressive.

In Switzerland you need to buy your rubbish bags from the council for about chf12/10bags

We made our way a little further down the road and had a look around Olten and paid particular attention to the wooden covered bridge.

Great idea!

We then chose a stop at Wangen on Aare river from park4night to have some lunch, after which we had a walk around and once again admired the wooden bridge.

We could have stayed here the night.

Mark is impressed the construction techniques.
Anyone notice the Australian flag? The house specialty is Black Angus beef.
The post transportation method.

From here we made our way to Solothurn and found a suitable parking near the train station. We then ventured into the old fortified town through one of its gates. On our travels we saw some of the 11 painted wooden fountains for which the town is famous. We were also impressed by the 12C clock tower in the main square. The Jesuits Church was the most ornate on this trip.

We once again consulted park4night and headed to a parking area at a gorge just out of Biel/Bienne. We spent a lovely hour walking before getting the BBQ out for dinner. After a brief conversation to a Swiss man he commented on how unusual it was to meet an Australian in Switzerland as normally the Swiss go to Australia!
