Rhine Falls

Travelled : 164km
Stay: near Aarau- free parking for walks N47.43525 E8.02992
Visited: Rhine Falls
After a very comprehensive breakfast with Gilbert and Gabi we said our farewells. Once again we were spoilt and are very appreciative of the generosity and welcome we are given.

Our first stop was at a service station to buy a vignette to allow us to travel on the motorways. Unfortunately you can only buy an annual one at chf40 but at least we don't need to stress about getting a fine.
We decided that we had time to head East to the Rhine Falls the largest in Europe at 150m wide, 23m fall and with upto 1070cu m per second.
Travelling along the Rhine river.

On the way we crossed over the river into Germany and then back into Switzerland as the Rhine is the border.

We parked in the area for motorhomes which also had a free service point, the fee was Chf5 for the first hour then chf2 for every hour after that.

It was a short walk to the base of the falls but the roar could be heard from Bluey! It was a very impressive sight and you could get a closer look on each side to really appreciate the volume and power of the water. There were also boat trips to the centre rock and as you can imagine it attracts many tourists.

From here we back tracked a bit and once again travelled through Germany before re - entering Switzerland to resume our journey to Neuchatel.

We researched a possible overnight stay and headed there although we did have a couple of GPS detours due to it choosing roads that didn't allow motor vehicles! As the parking area was for walks. We decided to follow one trail and we're rewarded with some beautiful views of valleys and farms, we could even see the Alps at the Austrian border...a wonderful way to end the day.

Would take a while to mow all of this.
