Cascade Herisson, St.Hippolyte

Travelled : 177km
Stay: St.Hippolyte- aire free parking and services N47.3185 E6.81541
Visited: Cascade Eventail de Herisson
After having done the services we continued our journey towards Basel. We did a little detour to the Cascades de Herisson.  It is a very popular 3 hour walk but as we needed to keep moving we just walked the 500m to the Eventail Falls. It was a pretty walk through the forest along a stream with moss covered rocks before we came to the base of the impressive  65m falls.

We then continued our drive through green valleys passing the sources of the l'Ain and Doubs rivers before driving through Pontarlier.

Haha..very creative with gumboots!
From here we followed the Doubs river which had carved out a lovely gorge. We had actually travelled and stayed overnight in one of the picnic areas along here in 2013.

We then left the Doubs only to come back to it in St.Hippolyte. The river had gone into Switzerland and back into France it then continues its journey until it reaches the Soane River at Verdun sur le Doubs (also visited in 2013). We had a stroll around the medieval village situated within the 700km2 clock area with its pretty typical Franche-Comté bulb roof church tower.

In the 17th century they used old tombstones to recover the floor!
