Basel

Travelled : 106km
Stay:Basel street parking at Gilbert

We woke up to the wonderful news that our niece Sally and Michael gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, River. We are very happy and excited for them.
We then drove to Basel through beautiful countryside leaving the Doubs river and going over the hill into Switzerland.

Abandoned border crossing.

GPS took us down another narrow track...further on it has a barrier!

Here we encountered a rich valley perfect for farming before crossing the border again back into Alsace France.

Straight away the villages become very colourful, typical of the area. We just love the style of the half timbered buildings.

After filling up with LPG and petrol we once again entered Switzerland at Basel and drove 4km to my godfathers home.

This border crossing is a bit fancier and attended. As we drove through there was a car being searched!

There's Bluey!

We spent a lovely day catching up... chatting and eating. We also went to have a look at Gilbert 's garden plot. He has an amazing amount of variety of plants. We picked some strawberries for breakfast tomorrow.

On a technical point we bought a Swiss sim card from Sunrise for a month data package chf45 - 5GB. Giving us piece of mind as the Vodafone sim we have for roaming data is changing their plan on the 12th June which is a pity. We can still use it but we will only get 200mb for €3 ( rather than 500mb) then charge €2 per 100mb. ..technology is never cheap!
