Cadiz

Travelled : 50km
Visited and Stay : Cadiz- mix car park at Port near town. €3/24hr toilets N36.537540 W6.290140
Just a short drive from Sanlucar was Cadiz, known to be the oldest continously inhabited settlement in Europe.  In 1812 it briefly became Spain's capital when the nation's first constitution was declared here.
On our way in both Gamy and us were a little confused as we took the bridge.... Apparently Bluey can drive over water!

It was a lovely town to wonder around in.

We started at the Plaza de Espana and as we read the notice board there we saw that there were a few different coloured routes we could follow. We began with the Orange one which took us along the seafront of the 1200 X 1800 peninsula. We walked through some lovely gardens and stood on the fortified walls looking out onto the North Atlantic Ocean.

Some very painstaking pruning!
Fortifications still used by the military.

Local beach and locals working on their boats
Sorry ladies no high heels allowed in the playground!

We then ventured into the old town along its narrow streets that opened out into plazas every now and then.

The cathedral

The town hall.. Like what they have done with the petunias.

We were lucky to come across the Mercado right on lunch time and happily partook in some local delicacies including some very well priced beers!

We had fried peppers, filled fried potatoe balls, fried sardines, grilled swordfish sandwich and fried dog fish...all was delicious!

Following the blue, purple and green lines painted on the roads throughout the town we spotted the main sights.
By late afternoon we were ready to head back to Bluey.

Selling his own catch in the street.

On the spot knife sharpening service powered by Bike!

More great looking entrances.

The town hall knockers are built to impress!
Lots of buildings built from local stone which looked compressed shells
Flamenco territory. Obviously a famous singer.
And dancer/singer.
The famous walk comes through here...
