Seville buggy ride, Metrapol Parasol and Cathedral

Seville Day 3.
We had another beautiful day. We had a late start as the boys watched the football and then we had breakfast at around 10am but that's still early in Spain especially on a Sunday. We decided to have a buggy ride which took us back to the Plaza Espana and the gardens. It was nice revisit it in style.

We then walked to the Metropol Parasol  also known as The Mushrooms. It was built in 2011 and was well over budget at 100 million euros due to its architectural and engineering challenges. However it is still a stunning latticed timber structure that offers great views over the city for €3 (incl. Complimentary drink and free postcard).

From here we headed towards the bullring but stopped at a TripAdvisor recommended restaurant for lunch. The dishes here were one step up, along with the price, to the usual places we would eat, but it was delicious.

We then walked along the banks of the Guadalquivir River to the Plaza de Toro,  one of Spain's oldest built in the 18th century and has a colourful Baroque facade. It can hold up to 14,000 spectators. Due to a fight being on tonight the visit was closed from 3pm.

We then ventured to the El Devino Salvador Church, where you can buy a combined ticket with the Cathedral (€9) so you can skip the queue.  This we found later to be a bonus as the queue at the Cathedral was very long.
The chapels and altars here were breathtaking along with the art and sacremental objects on display.

We were equally awed by the cathedral,  which took over a century to complete starting from 1401. Consequently there is a mixture of styles including Gothic, Renaissance and Moorish influences. It is the largest cathedral in Europe at 23,500 square metres. It had the most impressive altar made from 10,000kg of gold. The mahogany choir once held 170 priests, but now only 50 are in attendance. We also saw the Tomb of Columbus. We then explored a few of the chapels and the Orange Tree Courtyard.
