Limoux

Travelled : 27km
Stay:Limoux- aire, free parking and services. N43.05777 E2.21478
Visited: Esperaza, Limoux

As indicated by the amount of Km we travelled, we had a pretty easy day. We started with a walk through the centre of Esperaza and thought the sleepy town will certainly be busy tomorrow with the brocante (car boot sale) and the market filling up the streets. Then it was off to Limoux to McDonald's to watch the footy and do all those painful Apple updates that eat up mobile data! 4 hours later we were out of there feeling a tad stir crazy and headed back to the aire on the edge of town. We had already seen the middle of town on our way through earlier as we missed the street we should have taken. But it got worse because the road was closed due to there being a Springtime festival on and we had to zigzag our way down one way narrow streets with cars badly parked. It was a miracle that Bluey came out unscathed. This time we made it in on foot to the main square with lots of bar/restaurants,  patisseries and butcher shops which sell a lot of pre - prepared meals. Apparently the town has the world's longest festival lasting 3 months from January to March. We suppose during this time everyone is too busy to cook!  Like many of these towns there is a colourful history of wars, plagues and industries that have come and gone. Now it is well known for its wines and tourism. We watched a few of the locals have their petanque games next to the aire before settling in to Bluey for the night.
